Notes

The text was also published in vol. [2] of The Literalist (Philadelphia: Orrin Rogers, 1841); the volume designation is supplied by the New York Public Library. Amidst the swirling millenarian expectations of his time, Rev. Thorp, of Bristol, England (1771-1833), welcomes the signs of His coming seen in the rise of Bible society missions to bring the Jews and the heathen to Christ. In addition, his lectures are scornful of the Papacy and its temporal rule, claimed here to be in decline. Rinderknecht 41-514.
