Philadelphia. Was variously proposed by Isaac Leeser as a weekly or bi-weekly containing current Jewish news while his Occident, a monthly, would carry longer articles and essays. See Occident, Oct. 1850, p. 372; Leeser's intentions were renewed in the advertising sections of the Occident beginning Jan. 1856.
